NSCDC Boosts Security Operations In A’Ibom With Modern Tactical Equipment

…as the State Commandant commends Prof Ahmed Abubakar Audi-led leadership prowess

The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has strengthened its operational capacity with the acquisition and distribution of modern tactical and technological equipment aimed at improving security operations across the state.

The development is part of the strategic reform and modernization drive of the Commandant General of NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi who has continued to reposition the Corps to better deliver on its mandate of protecting critical national assets and maintaining internal security.

The equipment was formally unveiled to journalists at the Command Headquarters in Uyo by the Akwa Ibom State Commandant, Geraldine Abetianbe who described the development as a major boost to the operational readiness of the Corps in the state.

Speaking during the unveiling, the State Commandant expressed optimism that the newly deployed tools would significantly enhance the effectiveness of NSCDC personnel, particularly in tackling security threats in difficult terrains and sensitive operational environments.

According to her, “the equipment will be strategically deployed in our operations in dangerous terrains to check illegal bunkering activities, illegal mining operations in creeks and other areas that are significant to our operational mandates,” she said.

The Commandant reiterated that the equipment would be deployed strategically across operational units and formations to ensure optimal use and improved security coverage throughout the state. She also assured residents of the Corps’ commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and community stakeholders to maintain peace and protect lives and property.

The newly supplied equipment includes surveillance drones, binoculars, stun guns, solar-powered communication system packs, door breakers, pepper spray, operational gears designed for different terrains, firefighting equipment, Kevlar protective gear, fire extinguisher balls, ballistic helmets, smart cameras, uniforms, boots, raincoats and other operational accessories.

Security analysts say the introduction of surveillance drones and smart cameras will particularly enhance monitoring capabilities and real-time intelligence gathering, allowing officers to respond more swiftly to emerging threats.

Akwa Ibom State has in recent years faced challenges associated with illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism and other criminal activities within riverine and coastal communities. The deployment of specialized equipment is therefore expected to strengthen the Corps’ ability to monitor these areas and safeguard critical national infrastructure.

With the new operational tools now in place, the NSCDC Akwa Ibom State Command is expected to intensify its efforts in combating economic sabotage and other security threats while reinforcing its presence in vulnerable and hard-to-access areas of the state.
