Accountant General Harps On Peaceful Co-Existence

…as office holds Christmas carol

Christians have been reminded of the need to live peacefully with one another during this yuletide season, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Permanent Secretary and Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien made the call recently while addressing staff, during the Chrismas Carol held at the ICT Resource Centre grounds of his Office.

Pastor Andrew-Essien opined that Christmas was not all about merriment, but also a time for stock taking on the love of God for mankind. According to him, “Christmas is a time to reflect on the journey we have taken together, since the beginning of the year, as well as remember those in need, and extend a helping hand wherever possible”.

The Permanent Secretary was full of praises to God for passing through the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno to extend his service year. He equally lauded Pastor Umo Eno on prompt and regular payment of salaries and pensions, the 13th month salary, the new minimum wage, and gratuity, noting that these are testaments to the fact that, the Governor was not paying lip service to the well-being of workers, both serving and retired.

Pastor Andrew-Essien acknowledged the support and cooperation of his staff towards ensuring that the office was a harmonious space, soliciting their cooperation in the coming year for increased productivity.

Setting the tone for the event, the Deputy Accountant General, Mrs. Emem George expressed gratitude to God for his benevolence over and office of the Accountant General. Mrs. George praised the Accountant General, for setting aside a day for the office to celebrate God for his loving kindnesses.

Exhorting on the theme of the carol, “oh give thanks to the Lord for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever”, Rev. Gabriel Oton said thanksgiving is a command from God, irrespective of the contradicting circumstances. Rev. Oton admonished staff of the Office of the Accountant General to make thanksgiving a lifestyle, if they must enjoy more blessings from God

The event featured the rededication of the staff and office of the Accountant General to God, rendition from the various Departments in the office of the Accountant General, Ministry of Finance and State Universal Basic Education Board choirs who were guests.
