LG Introduces Online Certificate Of Origin

…As Chairman presents score card of 100 Days in office

The Executive Chairman of Itu local government area, Honourable Ubong Nkutt has said that his government will be ICT driven to ensure accessibility, accountability and transparency.

He made this declaration in his office in Mbak Atai, the headquarters of the local government area during a media chat to mark his first one hundred days in office recently. He expressed worry over the pains indigenes leaving outside the state and those in the Diaspora go through in visiting the council in order to obtain the certificate of origin (coo).

The council helmsman noted that under his watch, the council has developed a portal for indigenes to apply and get the coo online after series of verifications and confirmation. He further explained that security features have already been created to curb fraudulent activities from fraudsters, “We have developed an online portal to facilitate the issuance of certificates of origin for indigene of Itu to access same from anywhere in the world. We are creating a website for the local government as creating a YouTube channel for the local government where our activities will be uploaded for all to see. Our consultant is also developing a software where trader cards will be issued to our traders to help in the process of payment of levies and charges accruable to the council from internally generated revenue. All of these are parts of our effort to create a more accessible and transparent governance structure for the people”.

The Executive Chairman enumerated his achievement in the area of infrastructure within and around the council area to include, “Administrative Block: The construction of a state-of-the-art one-storey administrative block that houses 22 offices, all en-suit, is nearing completion. When completed, it will address office space shortages and improve operational efficiency within the Council.

Renovation of Legislative Offices: Our commitment to improving governance is reflected in the completion of the renovation of the legislative offices, providing a conducive work environment for our councilors.

“Council Perimeter Fence: The ongoing remodeling of the Council Secretariat’s perimeter fence will enhance security and aesthetic value, making the premises safer and more welcoming. Solar Powered Lights: We have installed a modern, cost effective and low maintenance solar powered lighting within the council premises to aid security and beautify the secretariat complex”.

The Chairman spoke more of his achievements in the areas of Youth Empowerment, Healthcare and Education. He appreciated the governor, members of the executive and legislative arms of the local government, directors and other staffers of the council, “I am deeply grateful to God Almighty for the enablement He has provided us so far. I appreciate His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State for his support and fatherly advice. I thank my wife, my Vice, the Head of Local Government Service and indeed all Directors, the Leader of Legislature and other Honourable Councilors for their support. I also thank all dedicated staff of the Local Government Council as well as all our stakeholders who have contributed to the success we are celebrating today”.
