…Calls for urgent government intervention, their immediate release
Tragedy struck on April 18, 2025, when 20 passengers traveling from Oron in Akwa Ibom State to Calabar, Cross River State, were abducted by unknown gunmen along the Oron-Calabar waterways. Among the kidnapped is General Odey Mathias, a respected figure and patriot whose fate, like that of the other victims, remains uncertain.
“General” Odey refers to Odey Mathias, a Nigerian comedian, event MC, public speaker, actor, radio host, he is known for his humorous work and is based in Uyo. He has a significant online presence, with a Facebook page.
This shocking incident has sparked concerns over the deteriorating security situation along Nigeria’s waterways, especially in the Niger Delta region. Families of the victims are in anguish, calling for urgent government intervention, while communities across Akwa Ibom and Cross River States are demanding swift action from security agencies.
As at press time, no official statement has been issued regarding ransom demands or rescue efforts. However, the call is growing louder.
