A United States-based Nigerian activist, Dr Sandra Duru, also known as Prof Mgbeke, has made explosive allegations against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, claiming the Kogi Central lawmaker offered her N200 million to falsely accuse Senate President Godswill Akpabio of organ harvesting.
Speaking during a Facebook live session on Thursday, Duru alleged that Senator Natasha attempted to recruit her into a scheme aimed at discrediting Akpabio. According to Duru, the lawmaker’s goal was to escalate the ongoing political standoff between them by fabricating damaging accusations. She claimed to have phone records to support her assertions.
“So I had to redirect her back to my question, and she then said it (sexual advances) didn’t happen. ‘I don’t have evidence,’” Duru said. I told Natasha, ‘You are a pathological liar. You have disgraced us, Nigerians.’ She said Nigerians were G and H – ‘Gullible and Hungry’ – and I asked, ‘You want to add to their problems?’”
Duru further alleged that she advised Senator Natasha to reconcile with fellow Senate members, but the lawmaker declined, insisting they were determined to “destroy the government. I don’t know what she meant by that,” Duru continued. “Natasha is not teachable. She lacks humility and doesn’t care. If it doesn’t go Natasha’s way, you are her enemy. Natasha is on a mission to destroy men… I cannot watch her destroy our men, our sons, and our girls who are following her blindly.”
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had earlier accused Senate President Akpabio of sexual harassment during a televised interview in February 2025. She alleged that Akpabio made inappropriate remarks and indicated her legislative bill would only be considered if she agreed to “take care” of him. She also claimed he invited her for a private meeting.
Akpabio firmly denied the allegations, stating that he had never harassed any woman and urged the matter be left for the courts to resolve. On March 6, 2025, the Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months without pay, citing “unruly and disruptive” conduct. Her complaint was dismissed on procedural grounds, as it was submitted directly by her, contrary to Senate rules requiring such submissions through another senator.
Her suspension followed a dispute over seating arrangements in the Senate chamber, which she interpreted as a deliberate attempt to humiliate her. She later said the suspension was in retaliation for rejecting Akpabio’s alleged advances—a claim the Senate President denied.
The Senate stated that her suspension could be reconsidered if she submitted a written apology. In protest, widespread demonstrations under the banner “We Are All Natasha” were held in cities such as Lagos, Enugu, Edo, and Kaduna.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan labeled her suspension a political witch-hunt and took her grievances to the global stage during a Women in Parliament event at the United Nations, describing the Senate’s decision as illegal and calling for international support.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejected a petition seeking her recall, stating it did not meet constitutional requirements. This latest allegation adds another layer to the long-standing tensions between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio, who previously rebuked her during a Senate session in July 2024, saying, “We are not in a nightclub,” after she spoke without being recognized. That remark was condemned as sexist, eventually prompting a public apology from Akpabio.
