A’Ibom AG Donates Laptop Computers To Best Graduating Trainees

The Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien has donated two laptop computers to the best graduating students of the ICT training programme for civil servants in the State.

The two beneficiaries are, Engr. Daniel Jonathan, staff of the Ministry of Works and Fire Service and Mrs. Mercy Samuel John of Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC).

Presenting the Laptops alongside the certificates to the 623 participants of the August 2022 – December 2024 ICT training on Monday 23rd June, 2025, at the ICT Resource Centre of his office, Pastor Andrew Essien said his decision to make personal donation of the laptops to the best graduating participants, is to serve as a morale booster to others.

The Accountant General who is also a Permanent Secretary, challenged civil servants to upgrade their knowledge on computer since according to him “the 21st century world is driven by technology”.

He said the training has equipped the participants with critical skills in information technology that would empower them to contribute meaningful to the growth of the civil service, and urged them to make the best use of knowledge gained during the training to improve on their profession, noting that “knowledge is a perishable commodity, when you do not warm it, it becomes stale”.

The Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Emem Almond Bob lauded the Accountant General’s consistency at ensuring that the ICT training for civil servants was sustained.

Represented by Director, ICT in the State, Prince Iniobong Eka, Mr. Bob said the civil service is in the process of digitization, “to put papers away from the civil service” and advised the trainees, to make the best use of the knowledge acquired during the training to upgrade themselves, in order to keep up with the 21st century trend in ICT.

Setting the tone for the event, the Managing Director, NIMESI Systems Limited, Mr. Etangese Isemin expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State Government for approving and providing a conclusive atmosphere for the training of civil servants.

Mr. Isemin opined that no government can make any meaningful progress, without well trained and informed employees, especially in ICT. Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mercy Samuel said she was elated by the benevolence of the Accountant General, and prayed God’s blessings on him.
