The member representing Uyo/ Uruan/ Nsit Atai/ Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt Hon (Elder) Mark Esset, Ph.D, has presented a comprehensive account of his two-year stewardship, outlining key legislative interventions, constituency projects and upcoming programmes designed to deepen development across the four LGAs.
He dropped the hint on Saturday during a media parley with journalists and bloggers at his Uyo residence. The Chairman, House Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations, said he considers the media a critical partner in democratic accountability and acknowledged the consistent professionalism of reporters who uphold truth and objectivity in public communication.
The federal lawmaker disclosed that his Mega Town Hall Meeting and Constituency Empowerment Programme will hold on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Ibom Hall, where elders, women and youths from all 42 wards will receive support worth over 1 Billion Naira in the form of cash, new vehicles, mini buses, keke, cargo tricycles, deep freezers, sewing machines, generators, hair dryers and other livelihood tools. He stressed that empowerment has remained a defining feature of his leadership culture from his days as Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai to his years in the State House of Assembly.
Esset outlined his legislative scorecard, listing bills and motions he has sponsored, all targeted at strengthening governance, removing discrimination against HND holders, improving revenue allocation to states, correcting irregularities in petroleum product depots, reviewing international flight pricing, enhancing vocational education, and ensuring oversight on directives concerning subsidized food distribution. He said these interventions demonstrate a representation that is alert to national concerns and responsive to issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
He further highlighted his oversight engagements as Chairman of the Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations and as an Executive Committee member of the African Parliamentary Union, where he has represented the National Assembly in several bilateral and multilateral missions. Esset added that his membership in major committees such as Finance, Health Institutions, Industry, Public Accounts, Justice and Inter-Governmental Affairs positions him to influence key policy areas while advocating strongly for his constituency.
On human capacity development, the National Assembly man reported that structured training and empowerment initiatives have benefitted over 800 constituents, with more than ₦70 million disbursed to support agriculture, mining, poultry, snail farming and micro-enterprise development. He said the goal is to build a constituency of skilled, self-reliant citizens capable of creating opportunities for themselves.
He also detailed infrastructural interventions, including the construction of the 4.5km Ibakang–Ikot Ekpot–Ikot Ukpong Road in Nsit Atai, the asphalting of Atakpo Street in Uyo, the 5,000-capacity Nsit Atai Unity Hall, a recreational centre in Idu-Uruan, community halls, electrification projects and ongoing works on Ekpenyong Urua Street. According to him, these projects reflect a representation that listens to grassroots realities and responds with concrete, measurable action.
Esset added that more than 1,350 solar-powered streetlights and several 12,000-litre boreholes have been installed across rural and urban communities, transforming security, water access and evening commerce. He described these projects as direct responses to long-standing needs documented during community engagements.
He also reported that over 10,000 people have benefited from his free medical outreaches across the four LGAs, covering surgeries, maternal care, drug distribution, consultations, laboratory services and extensive eye-care support. Special attention, he said, was given to the elderly, pregnant women and persons with disabilities in line with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.
In the education sector, Esset listed completed and ongoing school projects ranging from classroom blocks and renovations to the disbursement of ₦23.4 million to 234 students under his education support scheme. He also hinted at additional school rehabilitation projects billed to commence in early 2025.
The lawmaker divulged that, through him, several constituents have secured employment in federal establishments through his facilitation, including FIRS, NILDS, FMC Abakaliki, the Federal College of Education Ididep and other institutions. He emphasised that these opportunities were processed discreetly, professionally and strictly on merit.
Rep. Esset reaffirmed that his representation remains anchored on transparency, accessibility and measurable impact, noting that the November 27 mega empowerment will further consolidate ongoing efforts to strengthen livelihoods and deepen development across the constituency.
He thanked the media for their consistent partnership and urged continued objective scrutiny, stating that democracy flourishes best when the press holds leaders accountable with fairness, depth and professional integrity.
The media parley, which also had Governors Aides from the Federal Constituency in attendance, featured the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, who eulogized Rep. Esset for his exemplary and results-driven representation. He assured that journalists in the State and the broader media community will ensure the public remains well-informed about the lawmaker’s remarkable achievements.
