A-13-year-old Junior Secondary three boy (name withheld by us) from Etoi community in Uyo local government area of Akwa Ibom State is crying for help after seven men, ages between 23 and 34 for almost four consecutive years been having anal sex with him since his primary school days.
Narrating his ordeals to Century Newsfront, the victim said that one Daniel Ekong, a night security man with QIC School Etoi approached and took him to a government modular structure erected within the school and forcefully had anal sex with him. According to the boy, Daniel later took him and introduced to other men of which he, Daniel personally, took him to houses of those men to have anal sex with one Felix; Okwudili Levi Okeke (popularly known as Eze Anambra), another Daniel and many others he could not know their names nor trace their locations as they all threatened him not to tell anyone else he risk his life.
He further explained that in all locations Daniel Ekong took him for the act, he, Daniel and others often used a camouflage towel to clean his buttocks and that since then, his health started to deteriorate and whenever he feels like visiting the toilet, if he delays, the feces and other liquid substances will gush out of his anus uncontrollably coupled with excruciating pains.
On her part, the mother of the victim (name withheld by us), crying while narrating the story to Century Newsfront said, ‘I am confused, for me to die is better than this kind of life I am leaving now. This my son was chubby, very fat until I noticed that his health was deteriorating, when I asked, he told me, mummy, it’s a long story. After series of complaints of pains in the anus and we even discovered that feces was involuntarily droppings from his anus, his father and I mounted pressure in asking until he narrated the story to us and we arrested one Felix with police but since we did not have money to continue the case, we backed out as at then until you journalists came in to help us and promise to take care of the expenses and pursue the case for us, we say, thank you. We need more help, please, my son is dying’.
A concern citizen of the community, Chief Sampson Asuquo while profusely lamenting on the incident, called on the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno to come to the rescue of the boy, “if that boy die today, no one knows what the boy could have been in future. Please, let the governor come for the help of the boy, we have been watching on the social media how he renders help to people even outside of the state, this one is his son, he should come for his help”, Chief Asuquo pleaded.
The whole debacle came to the limelight when two Journalists (names withheld by us) waded into the matter after the victim’s parents, (names withheld by us) reneged in pursuing the matter due to financial constraints, according to findings by Century Newsfront the Journalists took over the hospital/laboratory bills and other sundry expenses to ensure that doctor’s report was secured. After securing the much expected doctor’s report, which the victim’s IPO, woman Inspector Affiong of Shelter Afrique police division was either reluctant or handicapped to pursue the case, the Journalists took the case further through several and multiple routes including the state ministry of Justice and the Police State Headquarters where the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare referred the case to SWAT with express instructions to get the culprit ‘in three days’.
It was beyond magical but miraculous that upon receiving the directive from the CP, the tactical team of SWAT led by its Commander, CSP koko Ebong and ASP Emmanuel Ayoka and their combatant men swung into ceaseless action and in two days, seven men namely: Okwudili Levi Okeke, David Udo James, Idara Itam Daniel, Daniel Jacob Edet, Udofia Edem Udosen, David Bassey Bassey and Nsikak Emmanuel Ben who were involved in the act were arrested, which they confessed to the crime and have already commenced the process of prosecuting them in a competent Court of the law.
While the Police have performed her constitutional responsibility judiciously and competently, the case now hangs on the neck of the Judiciary and the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Justice and the eyes of the media are opened to see its logical end.
