The Governorship Candidate of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Obong Jeremiah Akpan (OJA) has described the legacies of former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Arch. Obong Victor Attah as monumental projects that will continue to shape the state’s development for decades to come.
OJA stated this when he paid homage to the former governor at his residence in Uyo, where he acknowledged Attah’s pioneering contributions to the infrastructural and economic development of the state.
According to him, successive administrations in Akwa Ibom have continued to build upon foundations laid during the Attah’s administration, stressing that many of the projects initiated under the former governor remain relevant to the state’s development aspirations.
He specifically cited the Ibaka Deep Seaport, Attah International Airport, Science Park and the Ring Road project, among others as examples of major initiatives whose significance, he said, would extend far beyond the administrations that conceived them.
“Fifty years from now, governors of Akwa Ibom will still be riding on the legacies of Obong Victor Attah,” Obong Akpan declared, describing the former governor’s projects as monumental and difficult for subsequent administrations to surpass.
He expressed concern over the abandonment of some of the key projects, particularly the Ibaka Deep Seaport and Science Park and stressed the need for visionary leadership capable of revisiting, completing, maintaining and developing such initiatives.
The DLA candidate assured Obong Attah that, if given the opportunity to lead Akwa Ibom, he would promote good governance and ensure that worthy legacies were not abandoned.
He pledged to encourage the revival and completion of viable legacy projects while initiating new projects capable of transforming the state’s economy and improving the lives of its people.
Responding, Obong Victor Attah thanked Chief Jeremiah Akpan for the visit and appreciated his recognition of the contributions of his administration to the development of Akwa Ibom.
The former governor subsequently offered his fatherly blessing to the DLA governorship candidate, wishing him well in his political journey and leadership aspirations. The meeting further underscored the importance of continuity, institutional memory and visionary leadership in sustaining Akwa Ibom’s development beyond individual administrations.
