…DG Lion Pastor Ezekiel Umoh Leads Delegation, Decorates CMAC Prof. Inyang

As part of activities marking the 2025 World Mental Health Day, the District Governor of Lions Clubs International, District 404A2 Nigeria, Lion Pastor Ezekiel Umoh PMJF NLCF, on Friday led a high-powered delegation of Lions and Leos on a courtesy visit to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH).
The visit, which highlighted the year’s theme “Access to Services; Mental Health in Catastrophis and Emergencies,” focused on promoting mental wellness, community hygiene, and compassion for the less privileged.
Receiving the team on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Emem Bassey, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Clement Inyang, expressed delight at the continued partnership between UUTH and Lions International.
He lauded the organization for its numerous humanitarian interventions over the years — including paediatric cancer support programmes, environmental sanitation drives, and health awareness campaigns — describing them as tangible proofs of selfless service.
“According to the Scriptures, the poor will always be with us,” Prof. Inyang noted. “That makes it essential for society to create safety nets for the needy. The Lions have consistently provided such care, and we are very grateful.”
In his address, the District Governor, Lion Pastor Ezekiel Umoh, thanked the hospital management for their cooperation and enduring support, emphasizing that Lions International remains the world’s largest service organization committed to touching lives across communities.
“We invite professionals — doctors, nurses, and others — to join us in serving humanity, together, we can extend hope to more people and build a healthier, happier society.”
Impressed by Prof. Inyang’s remarks, Lion Umoh described him as possessing the “Lion’s spirit” and went on to decorate him with the District Governor’s pin, symbolizing recognition of his leadership and humanitarian disposition.
The event also featured the presentation of gift items for environmental sanitation, recognition of the Nurse in charge of the Mental Health Ward for maintaining high cleanliness standards, and donations to patients in the ward.
Also present at the event was the Past Region Chairperson (PRC) and District Committee Chairperson on Health (DCCH)), Dr. Ibiok Usendiah FMCOrtho NLCF, who commended the Lions for their sustained efforts in improving public health and supporting mental health awareness across the state.
The visit to UUTH reaffirmed Lions International’s enduring message that mental health is not just a medical concern, but a human right — and a shared responsibility for all.
