The call by the Executive governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D for his Commissioners and Special Advisers to always accompany him to all his official engagements as well as escorting him to his destinations and resident before departure is timeous, instructive and pertinent but not politically expedient for the business of the state.
Though in a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah redefined the riot act to read thus, “EXCO Members are particularly expected to show good example by staying through His Excellency’s Appointment and escorting him to his NEXT destination before departure”.
It is true that exco members on the governor’s entourage ought not to leave their boss for personal and frivolous activities as this does not show respect, solidarity and commitment to the course of governance and the governor as was observed, it is a “breach of protocol” in the real sense of the word.
However, this medium observed that calling all Commissioners and Special Advisers to join the convoy in every outing of the governor is a colossal waste of manpower, resources and time as such time, the Commissioners and Special Advisers whose governor’s engagement do not have something to do with their line of responsibility should face their ministries or bureaux’ responsibilities in office or in the field for the overall success of government else, same aides of the governor if failed in their responsibility would be queried, blamed, not only by the governor himself, but the people of the state for dereliction of duty.
The executive fiat should rather direct Commissioners and Special Advisers whose governor’s outing relates to their role including those officially invited by the governor to join his entourage.
