…As NDDC Vows to intensify support for the education of the less privileged children

In the heels of the 2025 Children Day celebration across the globe including Nigeria and Akwa Ibom state as integral part, while children in private and public schools gather in the 31 local government areas of the state to celebrate the world Children’s Day, Derek and Davies Empowerment Foundation in collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) brought out selected children from poor parental background to celebrate them in a grand style.
In his remarks, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of NDDC, Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono promised rejigged strength and courage in the minds of children who participated at the event, saying that as the representative of tomorrow, they must live above board in all they do. He promised to provide necessary facilities for children, especially the less privileged, support their education and development.
Represented the MD/CEO of NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, Ph.D, Apostle Nkono challenged parents and caregivers to live up to the expectation of training the children through personal example and effective nurturing if we are to have a stable tomorrow, “I enjoin organisers of this event, parents and caregivers to show commitment in the training of children. Children are not to be toyed with because they represent tomorrow in our lives, we who were children yesterday are parents today, they will also be parents tomorrow. It is our responsibility to supervise what they do”.
Earlier in her speech, the representative of Derick and Davis Empowerment foundation, Mrs Precious Erirate while welcoming all to the event, thanked parents for brining their children and wards to the programme. She stated the importance of nurturing and protecting children, gave words of encouragement to participants and charged them to be obedient children so they can grow and become responsible adults in future, “On behalf of Derick and Davis Empowerment foundation with the great support of NDDC, I warmly welcome all our beloved children, parents, guardians, teachers, distinguished guests, and community members to this joyful celebration of Children’s Day. Today’s theme, ‘OUR CHILDREN – OUR FUTURE’ reminds us all of the immense value our children hold as the foundation of tomorrow’s society. It is our collective responsibility to nurture, protect, and empower them so they can grow into confident, responsible, and successful adults. We are thrilled to have you all here to share in the fun, education, and camaraderie planned for this special day. From exciting games and quizzes to motivating speeches and cultural presentations, we have activities designed not only to entertain but also to inspire and encourage our children”.
The event featured various activities, including quiz competition, dancing competition, and distribution of food, drinks, and school bags to children as well as cash prizes donated by the Commissioner to the first three winners.
