R. Kelly Hospitalized After Alleged Overdose In Prison

By Christian George

Embattled R&B singer R. Kelly was rushed to Duke University Hospital after reportedly overdosing on medication while serving a 30-year sentence in a North Carolina prison, according to new court filings submitted by his legal team.

The 58-year-old, who was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking, is said to have collapsed on June 13 after experiencing dizziness, faintness, and black spots in his vision. His attorneys claim the episode was caused by dangerously high doses of medication administered by prison staff while Kelly was being held in solitary confinement.

Kelly was reportedly placed in solitary on June 10, just days after filing an emergency motion expressing fears for his safety. According to the motion, the singer stated he had received death threats from individuals he described as white supremacists inside the facility.

His legal team argues that the confinement and forced medication were retaliatory measures taken by prison officials in response to his complaints. “He was locked up and loaded up with medication,” his attorneys stated in the filing, alleging that he was first administered anxiety medication and later instructed to take additional prescriptions without proper medical supervision.

The overdose and subsequent hospitalization have raised concerns over the treatment of inmates in solitary confinement and the oversight of prison healthcare protocols. As of the time of reporting, prison officials have not issued an official response to the claims made in the court documents.
