The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced that the application portal for the 2026 Students’ Bursary Scheme will officially open on Monday, July 20, 2026, inviting eligible indigenes studying in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria to apply for the annual educational support programme.

To qualify for the bursary, applicants must be indigenes of Akwa Ibom State and students of recognized public tertiary institutions. They are also required to possess an admission letter, student identity card, school fees receipt, certificate of origin, valid National Identification Number (NIN), a recent passport photograph and a valid bank account in the applicant’s name.

The bursary scheme is one of the Akwa Ibom State Government’s education support initiatives aimed at reducing the financial burden on students and promoting access to quality higher education. The programme has continued to provide financial assistance to thousands of eligible students pursuing various academic programmes in public tertiary institutions across the country.

Students intending to apply are advised to assemble all the required documents before the portal opens to ensure a seamless registration process. They are also encouraged to ensure that the information supplied during the application matches the details contained in their official documents, as all submissions will undergo verification before successful applicants are approved for payment.

The government further urged applicants to complete their registration promptly once the portal becomes active and to retain copies of all submitted documents for reference. Prospective beneficiaries should also monitor official government communication channels for updates on the application process, verification exercise and disbursement schedule.

Applicants have also been cautioned to beware of fraudsters and to avoid making payments to any individual or organization claiming to guarantee approval of the bursary application.
