Nigeria is set to host some of the world’s most influential economic policymakers as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, and the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, headline the 7th Africa Emerging Markets Forum scheduled for July 29–30, 2026, at the CBN Headquarters in Abuja. The event is expected to bring together policymakers, economists, development partners, investors and business leaders from across Africa and beyond to chart a sustainable path for the continent’s economic future.

The forum, themed “Building Resilience Amidst Geoeconomic Uncertainties,” comes at a time when African economies are navigating the combined effects of global inflation, geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions, debt pressures and climate-related economic challenges. Organisers say the discussions will focus on practical policy measures that can strengthen macroeconomic stability, deepen regional integration, improve investment flows and accelerate inclusive economic growth.

A major attraction of the two-day gathering will be a high-level fireside dialogue between Cardoso and Okonjo-Iweala. The discussion is expected to explore how African economies can adapt to an increasingly fragmented global economy while leveraging the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), digital transformation, financial reforms and expanded global trade partnerships.

For Nigeria, hosting the forum underscores the country’s growing role in shaping economic discourse on the continent. Since assuming office, Cardoso has pursued monetary and foreign exchange reforms aimed at restoring investor confidence, strengthening financial market stability and improving macroeconomic management. Meanwhile, Okonjo-Iweala continues to advocate globally for fairer trade policies, resilient supply chains and stronger participation of developing economies in international commerce.

Analysts believe the forum will provide an important platform for governments and the private sector to exchange ideas on financing development, attracting investment, expanding industrial capacity and enhancing Africa’s competitiveness in the global economy. The expected participation of leading international institutions and financial experts further highlights the significance of the event as Africa seeks innovative solutions to today’s economic uncertainties.

The outcomes of the discussions are expected to contribute to policy recommendations that will help African nations build more resilient economies capable of withstanding external shocks while creating sustainable opportunities for growth, employment and long-term prosperity.
