The Ibom Deep Sea Port Project has recorded a significant milestone as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, led a high-level technical engagement and strategic working session with project partners, Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Group, in Paris, France.
The meeting, Century Newsfront gathered that was held yesterday Friday, June 5, 2026, focused on advancing the implementation framework for the much-anticipated maritime infrastructure project, widely regarded as one of the most transformative economic initiatives in Akwa Ibom State.
During the session, stakeholders reviewed the recently completed Technical Feasibility Report prepared by global engineering and professional services firm, Worley Parsons. Discussions centered on critical issues relating to investment strategies, project execution plans, operational sustainability and the roadmap towards actual construction.
Governor Eno reiterated the determination of his administration to ensure that the project moves beyond the planning stage into full-scale implementation. He called for accelerated action, requesting clear timelines, measurable milestones and concrete next steps from all partners involved.
According to the Governor, the Ibom Deep Sea Port remains a strategic priority capable of unlocking immense economic opportunities, attracting investments, generating employment and positioning Akwa Ibom as a major maritime gateway in West and Central Africa.
The engagement also saw the Akwa Ibom State Government and prospective investors reaffirm their collective commitment to the successful delivery of the project, which is expected to play a pivotal role in the development of Nigeria’s Blue Economy and strengthen the state’s position as a maritime, logistics, and international trade hub within the Gulf of Guinea.
A statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, noted that the Governor’s delegation included the Chairman of the Technical Committee on the Ibom Deep Sea Port Project and former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mrs. Mfon Usoro; the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; the Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpeyong; Managing Director of Hensek Integrated Services, Engr. Uwem Okoko and other members of the state delegation.
Industry observers view the renewed engagement in Paris as a major step toward realizing a project that has been in the pipeline for several years. Once completed, the Ibom Deep Sea Port is expected to stimulate industrialization, enhance cargo handling capacity, facilitate regional trade, boost revenue generation and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians at large.
The latest development underscores the growing momentum behind the project and signals the readiness of both government and private sector partners to drive its actualization as a cornerstone of Akwa Ibom State’s long-term economic development agenda.
